Efforts to improve the ability to read pantun through the make a match learning model in elementary school students

Abstract

This study aims to examine efforts to improve pantun reading skills through the Make a Match learning model in elementary school students based on previous research findings. The study employed a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data sources were obtained from journals and scientific articles from Google Scholar, SINTA, GARUDA, and other references published between 2008–2024. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation by collecting journals and articles relevant to the research topic. Data analysis was conducted through reading, classifying, analyzing, and synthesizing research findings. The results of the study indicate that the Make a Match learning model is effective in improving students’ pantun reading skills. The improvement can be seen from students’ ability to read pantun with proper pronunciation, intonation, expression, and understanding of meaning. In addition, the Make a Match model also increases students’ motivation, activeness, cooperation, and self-confidence during the learning process. However, the success of this model is influenced by teacher creativity, classroom management, learning media, and student characteristics. Therefore, the Make a Match learning model can be used as an effective and enjoyable alternative strategy in Indonesian language learning, especially in pantun material at the elementary school level.
