Analysis of the application of bioethical principles in fertilizing horticultural plants at the Medan Johor horticulturalparent seed uptd

Abstract
The horticultural sector plays a strategic role in food security, but uncontrolled use of chemical fertilizers can threaten ecological sustainability. This study aims to analyze the application of bioethical principles, namely beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and responsibility, in horticultural plant fertilization practices at the Medan Johor Horticultural Seed Main Plant (UPTD). This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through field observations, structured interviews, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation. The results show that the UPTD has attempted to integrate bioethical principles through balanced fertilization management between organic and inorganic fertilizers, equitable seed distribution to the community, and compliance with environmental regulations. However, this implementation still faces several challenges, such as limited knowledge of bioethics among practitioners and financial constraints in adopting environmentally friendly technologies. This study recommends increasing human resource capacity through agricultural ethics training and strengthening environmental-based internal regulations to ensure sustainable seed quality.
