Publication Ethics

Economic: Journal Economic and Business (EJEB) is committed to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. The journal recognizes that ethical publication practices are essential to ensuring the reliability, credibility, and quality of scientific knowledge.

This Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement establishes the ethical responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher throughout the editorial and publication process.

EJEB is published by Lembaga Riset Mutiara Akbar (LARISMA). The journal's publication ethics policies are informed by the principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applicable standards of responsible scholarly publishing.

All parties involved in the publication process are expected to comply with these principles and contribute to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

1. Responsibilities of the Publisher

Lembaga Riset Mutiara Akbar (LARISMA), as the publisher of EJEB, is committed to supporting editorial independence, publication integrity, and responsible scholarly communication.

The publisher supports the editorial team in implementing transparent editorial procedures and addressing ethical concerns arising before or after publication.

Commercial, financial, institutional, or other external interests must not improperly influence editorial decisions.

The publisher and editorial team cooperate, when appropriate, with authors, reviewers, institutions, and other publishers to address matters involving publication ethics and the integrity of published research.

2. Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

2.1. Editorial Decisions

Editors are responsible for evaluating submitted manuscripts and determining their suitability for publication.

Editorial decisions must be based on the scholarly quality, originality, methodological soundness, relevance, and contribution of the manuscript to the journal's focus and scope.

Editors may consider reviewer recommendations, journal policies, and applicable legal or ethical requirements when making editorial decisions.

The final decision to accept, revise, or reject a manuscript rests with the authorized editorial team.

2.2. Fairness and Impartiality

Editors must evaluate manuscripts objectively and fairly, without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, religious belief, institutional affiliation, political opinion, or other characteristics unrelated to scholarly merit.

All submissions must receive appropriate consideration according to the journal's editorial standards and procedures.

2.3. Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and related editorial communications.

Information about a manuscript may be disclosed only to individuals who have a legitimate role in the editorial process, including the corresponding author, assigned reviewers, relevant editorial staff, and authorized editorial advisers.

EJEB implements a double-blind peer-review system, under which author and reviewer identities are concealed from each other during manuscript evaluation.

Editors are responsible for supporting the confidentiality and integrity of this process.

2.4. Conflicts of Interest

Editors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, institutional, or other relationships that could compromise, or appear to compromise, their impartiality.

Editors with relevant conflicts of interest must not manage or make editorial decisions concerning the affected manuscript. Editorial responsibility should be assigned to another qualified editor whenever appropriate.

Unpublished information obtained through editorial responsibilities must not be used for personal research or advantage without the author's explicit permission.

2.5. Ethical Oversight

Editors are responsible for responding appropriately to credible concerns involving plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, inappropriate authorship, duplicate publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other forms of research and publication misconduct.

Concerns must be assessed fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with the journal's established policies.

Editors may request explanations, supporting documentation, or institutional clarification when necessary.

3. Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

3.1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review supports the editorial team in evaluating the scholarly quality, originality, methodology, interpretation, and significance of submitted manuscripts.

Reviewers are expected to provide constructive assessments that assist editors in making informed decisions and help authors improve their work.

3.2. Competence and Timeliness

Reviewers should accept review invitations only when they possess appropriate expertise and can complete the evaluation within the requested timeframe.

A reviewer who lacks the necessary expertise or cannot complete the review promptly should inform the editor and decline the invitation.

3.3. Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential scholarly documents.

Reviewers must not disclose, distribute, reproduce, or discuss manuscript contents with unauthorized individuals.

Information obtained during peer review must not be used for personal, professional, or commercial advantage.

Reviewers must respect the journal's double-blind peer-review procedures and must not attempt to identify authors unnecessarily.

3.4. Objectivity and Professional Conduct

Reviewers must conduct evaluations objectively, respectfully, and on the basis of scholarly evidence.

Review comments should be clear, specific, constructive, and supported by appropriate academic reasoning.

Personal criticism, discriminatory remarks, and unsupported allegations are unacceptable.

3.5. Identification of Relevant Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant scholarly literature that has been overlooked when its inclusion would materially strengthen the manuscript.

Reviewers should inform the editor of substantial similarities or overlaps between the submitted manuscript and other published or submitted works of which they are aware.

3.6. Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest involving the manuscript, its authors, research institutions, funding organizations, or related parties.

Reviewers should decline or withdraw from an assignment when a conflict could affect the independence or fairness of their evaluation.

4. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

4.1. Accuracy and Research Integrity

Authors must present their research accurately, honestly, and transparently.

Research findings, methods, data, and interpretations must be reported without deliberate fabrication, falsification, manipulation, or misleading representation.

Manuscripts should provide sufficient methodological information and scholarly references to allow readers to understand and evaluate the research.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the content they submit.

4.2. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their manuscripts represent original scholarly work.

The ideas, findings, data, and words of other researchers must be appropriately cited, quoted, or acknowledged.

Plagiarism, including unattributed copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, and the unauthorized presentation of another person's work as one's own, is prohibited.

EJEB uses Turnitin to support originality and similarity screening.

Similarity reports are evaluated in context, taking into account appropriate citations, quotations, terminology, and the nature of textual overlap.

Further information is available in the journal's Plagiarism Policy.

4.3. Multiple, Redundant, and Concurrent Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.

Manuscripts must not substantially duplicate previously published work without appropriate disclosure, justification, and acknowledgment.

Where a manuscript is related to earlier publications, authors must clearly identify the relationship and explain its distinct scholarly contribution.

4.4. Authorship and Contributions

Authorship must accurately reflect meaningful intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript.

All individuals listed as authors must satisfy the journal's authorship requirements, approve the submitted manuscript, and accept responsibility for their contributions.

Individuals who have contributed to the work but do not qualify for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible contributors are properly credited and that all listed authors agree to the submission and publication of the manuscript.

Further requirements are described in EJEB's Authorship Criteria.

4.5. Acknowledgment of Sources

Authors must appropriately acknowledge scholarly works, research materials, datasets, and other sources that have contributed to the study.

All in-text citations and reference entries must be accurate, complete, and consistent with the journal's required reference style.

Authors must obtain permission for the reuse of copyrighted materials when such permission is required.

4.6. Data Integrity and Availability

Authors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of research data and supporting documentation.

Data must not be fabricated, falsified, or selectively manipulated to produce misleading findings.

When reasonably necessary for editorial evaluation or investigation of ethical concerns, authors may be asked to provide supporting research materials, subject to applicable confidentiality, privacy, and legal requirements.

4.7. Research Involving Human Participants or Animals

Research involving human participants, personal information, or animals must comply with applicable ethical principles, institutional requirements, and relevant laws or regulations.

Where required, authors must obtain appropriate ethical approval and informed consent.

Authors must protect participant confidentiality and personal information and disclose relevant ethical considerations in the manuscript.

4.8. Conflicts of Interest and Funding Disclosure

Authors must disclose financial and non-financial interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.

Relevant funding sources, sponsorship arrangements, and institutional support must be acknowledged.

Authors must comply with the journal's Conflict of Interest Policy.

4.9. Correction of Significant Errors

When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in a submitted or published manuscript, they must promptly inform the editorial office.

Authors are expected to cooperate with the editorial team in evaluating the error and determining the appropriate corrective action.

Depending on the circumstances, the journal may issue a correction, retraction, or other appropriate editorial notice in accordance with its Correction and Retraction Policy.

5. Research and Publication Misconduct

EJEB does not tolerate deliberate violations of research integrity or publication ethics.

Potential misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Plagiarism and inappropriate reuse of scholarly content.

  • Fabrication or falsification of research data or findings.

  • Duplicate or redundant publication.

  • Inappropriate authorship attribution or undisclosed contributors.

  • Manipulation or interference with the peer-review process.

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest.

  • Misrepresentation of research methods, results, or ethical approval.

  • Other practices that undermine the integrity of scholarly publishing.

Allegations of misconduct must be assessed on the basis of available evidence and handled through a fair and proportionate process.

The editorial team may request clarification from the parties involved and, when appropriate, consult relevant institutions or other responsible authorities.

Editorial actions may include requesting clarification, requiring revisions, rejecting a manuscript, or issuing an appropriate post-publication notice.

Further information is provided in EJEB's Allegation of Research Misconduct Policy.

6. Manuscript Withdrawal

Authors who wish to withdraw a submitted manuscript must submit a written request to the editorial office, stating the reason for withdrawal.

Withdrawal requests should be communicated promptly to prevent unnecessary editorial or peer-review work.

The editorial team will review the request, confirm the manuscript's editorial status, and communicate the outcome to the corresponding author.

A manuscript should not be submitted to another journal while it remains under active consideration by EJEB. Authors should obtain confirmation that the withdrawal has been processed before submitting the manuscript elsewhere.

If a withdrawal request concerns a manuscript that has already been accepted or published, the editorial team will assess the circumstances in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and correction or retraction policies.

EJEB does not impose manuscript withdrawal penalties.

7. Corrections, Retractions, and Post-Publication Integrity

EJEB is committed to maintaining the accuracy and reliability of the scholarly record after publication.

When credible concerns arise regarding a published article, the editorial team will evaluate the available information and determine the appropriate response.

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue, editorial action may include:

  • Publication of a correction.

  • Publication of a retraction.

  • Issuance of an expression of concern when appropriate.

  • Other editorial measures consistent with the journal's established policies.

Editorial notices should clearly identify the affected publication and explain the relevant reasons for the action, while respecting applicable confidentiality requirements.

The journal also supports responsible post-publication scholarly discussion and the consideration of substantiated concerns regarding published research.

Further information is available in EJEB's Correction and Retraction Policy and Post-Publication Discussion Policy.

8. Editorial Independence and Publication Fees

Editorial decisions at EJEB are based on scholarly merit and compliance with the journal's editorial and ethical standards.

Publication fees must not influence manuscript evaluation, reviewer recommendations, or editorial decisions.

EJEB does not charge submission or peer-review fees.

An Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 500,000 applies only to manuscripts formally accepted for publication.

Payment does not guarantee manuscript acceptance, and the journal does not offer paid fast-track review or guaranteed publication.

Further information is available on the journal's Author Fees page.

9. Ethical Complaints and Appeals

Authors, reviewers, readers, and other concerned parties may report suspected ethical violations or raise substantiated concerns regarding editorial conduct or published research.

Complaints should be submitted to the editorial office with sufficient information and supporting evidence to enable appropriate evaluation.

The editorial team will assess the matter fairly, maintain confidentiality where appropriate, and provide relevant parties with an opportunity to respond when necessary.
